Tucked in the bustling center of the City, Hotel Lorena is a delightful hotel that is both pleasant and sufficient to any guest. I rented a single room with a shared bathroom across the narrow hallway. The room was clean and well organized. The view from the 2nd floor allowed me to see down on the town's comings and goings. Fun. I could also see the Duomo a short distance away.
Although there was a lot of noise down on the street when the well insulated windows were closed none of that sound came through and the room was as quiet as can be.
The family that runs the hotel (father, mother, son) were all helpful. Specially Lorenzo, the middle aged son, was one of the most pleasant and guys I interacted with while in Florence.
Fine for one night. Negatives: only one pillow; a system where you have to give them your room key whenever leaving the building; strange written requests saying it's forbidden to put bags on the bed (even though bags weigh less than a person); no soap, shower gel or shampoo dispenser in the shared bathrooms.
Location is perfect; super central and within walking distance to the station, market and Duomo.
Room was a proper triple with plenty of space for all three of us including our luggage. Bathroom was large and well appointed.
Lift was old fashioned and great fun (and fit three of us in). Staff were super lovely, friendly and helpful. They ordered us taxis and let us store our bags until we left the city. We felt safe and welcomed there.
Great restaurants and cafes for all meals on the doorstep (cafe that does yoghurt bowls, eggs and avocado toast, and smoothies literally next door. Amazing gluten free restaurant opposite - book it!)
If you are traveling on a budget, this is one of the best options in Florence. It appears to be an older building, no frills. It is central to everything (Piazza del Duomo, train station, Uffizi, Pitti Palace/Bobili gardens, Ponte Vecchio, many great restaurants and shops). I believe they used to serve breakfast, though that seems to not be the case anymore.
Overall It just was not the right fit for us. Lengthy check in with review of house rules, and I think some things were lost in translation because we did not speak good Italian at all and the gentleman at the desk who checked us in didn’t speak great English. (Perhaps a print out that is translated to many different languages for various guests would help in addition to the review to make sure guests don’t miss anything). Sometimes conflicting information (our check out slip said that check out was at 11, the front desk said it was 10:30), and you have to leave your key at the desk every time you leave. That last piece was probably the major downside of our stay, as it just made us feel uncomfortable the entire time. Everything else is more nitpicking. If this isn’t a big deal to you, I would highly recommend this accommodation.
We stayed two nights in the hotel. It is perfectly located a few streets from the main attractions. The staff is courteous and helpful and the view from the room was beautiful. Price was good compared with other hotels in the area.
Be aware that you have to carry the luggage to the first floor where the reception and a tiny/old lift is.
I stayed in the single room with shared bathroom. Seems like I am the only one using that bathroom. Situated in an excellent location it could get noisy at night but I got a view of the dome of the duomo. The staff at the front desk, one like a robot uncle lol could make you feel cold in the beginning but he’s very nice. They are very organized in an old fashioned way
Fabulous hotel! The owners are very kind and helpful, and the room I stayed in was amazing - imitation fireplace, very spacious bathroom, and lots of nice wooden furniture. Much better than a global hotel franchise! Book over the phone, the online booking portal must be using a weird algorithm to price gouge (the online portal offered me $4,200 per night - yes you read that correctly - and when I booked over the phone I only paid $67 per night). Will definitely stay here again!
A simple and clean hotel. Very good sound isolation, we haven't heard a noise from the street, plus it generally gets quite in this area after midnight. We had concerns about booking in a touristic area but it turned out to be a great budget choice - no thrills, but the owners take such good care of the place, it was a pleasant stay!
